Wes Lee’s, “Over Shouting Guns We Can Hears No Angels” was a piece that jumped out to me the moment I walked in the room. Even before I knew the meaning behind it, I immediately gravitated towards it. The use of pastels on the rough surface paper gave it such texture and the colors of the building with the trees gave me a peaceful autumn feeling. You get so caught up in the overall picture that you overlook the angel above the thief who is crying out to stop him from pulling the trigger. Then as you look at the title, it’s as if you heard the gunshot yourself and realize what is going on. His piece is painted accurately in comparison to the real world. So often we walk around in our own little peaceful world that we overlook some serious issues at hand. Even if we do know what’s going on, its almost like we don’t care and only one trying to make a difference is the God above by sending his angels down to us, but even then we don’t listen.
